4-H Summer Fun

Mitchell County 4-H Summer Fun Program

Do you love science? Do you want to be a scientist? If so, this is the class for you! Come join us as we make slime, elephant toothpaste, lava lamps, and more. Participants will participate in a variety of science experiments. Class will be held at Deyton Elementary. Instructors will be Kellie Chapman and Jennifer Cook. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy.

Date: July 6, 2023

Ages: 7-13 year old

From: 9:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Cost: $10

Limit: 12 participants

Christmas in July – Juniors

Who doesn’t love Christmas? Join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by making a variety of Christmas/Winter crafts. We will make ornaments, cards, and more on these fun filled days. Please have your child wear older clothes because we will be painting. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their creations at the Mountain State Fair. Class will be held at Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Instructors will be Kellie Chapman and Jennifer Cook. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy each day.

Dates: July 10-11, 2023

Ages: 9-14 year old

From: 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. each day

Christmas in July- Cloverbuds

Everyone loves Christmas! Come join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by making ornaments, painting rocks, making paper crafts and more on this Christmas filled day! Mrs. Claus may even make an appearance for all of the good little boys and girls. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their creations at the Mountain State Fair. Class will be held at Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Instructors will be Kellie Chapman and Jennifer Cook. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy.

Jams and Jellies- Youth

Do you know that making jams and jellies is scientific? In this class each participant will learn how to safely make two different jams/jellies using the guidelines from the National Center for Home Preservation. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their jams/jellies at the Mountain State Fair. You will also have the opportunity to take your jams/jellies home. Class will be held at Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Instructors will be Sharon Rowland and Kellie Chapman. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy.

Introduction to Electricity

Do you love to learn about electricity? In this class we will introduce electricity and briefly cover its history. We will make paper circuits, discuss conductors and insulators, and explore magnetism in this fun filled morning. Class will be held at Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Instructors will be Steve Rowland and Kellie Chapman.

Garden Day

Participants will learn the many steps that go into planting and tending to a garden. Youth will have the opportunity to work in the 4-H ALIVE Garden and enjoy a picnic lunch prepared using some of the produce harvested. Participants will meet at the Mitchell County Extension Office and walk to the garden.

Jams and Jellies- Cloverbud

Kitchen Chemistry

Join us on this exciting day full of science experiments that can be done in the kitchen. We will make invisible ink, experiment with foods changing colors, make volcanoes, and more. We will even make our own ice cream in a bag and use celery as a straw. Class will be held at Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy.

End of Summer Bash

Join us for a day filled with fun as we celebrate the end of summer. We will have sack races, build the biggest bubble, have water balloon tosses, and more on this fun filled day. This will only be open to participants who have participated in Summer Fun classes. Pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Please have your child wear tennis shoes and bring sunscreen if needed. Location: Meet at Extension office and walk to Creekwalk Pavilion.

Cost:  Free

All youth must be enrolled in 4-H Online to participate in Summer Fun Programming.
