Teen Cook Camp!

Want to learn more about cooking? Join us for a cook camp for teenagers! This camp is designed so that anyone of any cooking level can join. Our instructor will be Christina Robinson, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mitchell County Center’s Family and Consumer Science agent.

Dates: June 4th-June 6th

Ages: 13-18 year olds

Science and Technology Day: Power Protectors!

Join us for a supercharged day full of fun and games! Youth will learn about energy conservation through superhero themed games! Bring a bagged lunch to enjoy as we dive into saving Energy Island!

Dates: June 10th

Ages: 8 and up

Science and Technology Day: Intro to Coding and Robotics- Juniors

Get ready to have a blast with Dash and Dot robots! Youth will learn how to use block code to control the Dash and Dot robot models.

District Activity Day

Are you ready to show your stuff? 4-H Presentations will be held this year at Western Carolina University! Youth must prepare a presentation following 4-H guidelines. Please contact the Extension Office if you are interested in participating! Transportation will be provided from the Extension Office to WCU. More information to come.

Why do presentations? Youth have the opportunity to develop their knowledge in creating a presentation and research skills, and develop their public speaking skills in front of an audience and earn prizes for their performance, and they can even earn a trip to 4-H Congress! If you are new to presentations, no need to worry! We have experienced volunteers willing to guide youth through the steps of their presentation.

Jams and Jellies- Cloverbud

Do you know that making jams and jellies is scientific? In this class, each participant will learn how to safely make two different jams/jellies using two different methods following the guidelines from the National Center for Home Preservation. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their jams/jellies at the Mountain State Fair. You will also have the opportunity to take your jams/jellies home.

Christmas in July-Cloverbuds

Everyone loves Christmas! Come and join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by making ornaments, painting rocks, making paper crafts and more on this Christmas filled day! Mrs. Claus may even make an appearance for all the good little boys and girls. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their creations at the Mountain State Fair. Class will be held at the Bakersville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy!

Christmas in July- Juniors

Who doesn’t love Christmas? Join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by making a variety of Christmas/Winter crafts. We will make ornaments, cards and more on these fun filled days. Please have your participant wear older clothes because we will be painting. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their creations at the Mountain State Fair. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy!

Christmas Trees? In July? Oh My!

Still haven’t had enough Christmas in July? Explore Mitchell County’s largest agricultural export with Mitchell County Center’s local expert, Shane Biddix. As part of this activity, youth will learn about the production of Christmas trees and visit local producer’s operations! Bring a bagged lunch to enjoy, and please apply sunscreen and bug repellent before sending your participant! We will meet at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mitchell County Center and leave from there.

End of Summer Bash

Join us for one last day full of fun to celebrate the end of Summer. We will have various outdoor games, food, and fun for the whole family! Parents are required to stay with their child during this time. Please apply sunscreen and bug spray before attending!
