2025 Mitchell County 4-H Summer Fun

Junior Rare Jams, Jellies, and Pickles

Have you ever wanted to know how pickles are made? In this day camp, we will make jelly, jams, and pickles using the proper canning methods and discuss the differences between jam and jelly. You will also get to take a jar and your recipe home to enjoy! Participants will make blueberry peach jam and Tutti-Fruity Jam on day one, and make sweet pickles, sour pickles, and jalapeño jam the second day. Entries will be sent to the Mountain State Fair and each participant will decorate their “take home” jams with cute fabrics.

Jams and Jellies Cloverbud

Have you ever wanted to know how to make your favorite types of jelly? In this day camp, we will make jelly using the proper canning methods and discuss the differences between jam and jelly. Each participant will make two different flavors of jam and jellies to take home and will package two others for their entries in the Mountain State Fair for Ribbons and Prizes. The flavors will be Triple Berry (Strawberry, Blueberry, and Raspberry) and Pineapple-Peach. Each participant will cover the lids of their jars with cute fabric samples.

Illumination Station

Looking for something to brighten your day? Join us as we learn all about the magic of electricity! In this class, we will learn the ins and outs of the basics of circuits to create light! Did you know paper can be used as a circuit board? Join us to find out how! We will also be making a lamp for you to take home, using your favorite empty soda can! Be sure to bring your empty soda can to the workshop!

Lego Legends

4-Her’s will use their imaginations to create their own Lego creations that will be entered into the Mountain State Fair!

Hands-on Discovery Trip

Mitchell County 4-H will be hitting the road to have a day full of SCIENCE at the Hands-on Discovery Center in Gray, TN. We will be exploring all of their exhibits and having Chick-fil-A for lunch!

Kitchen Chemistry

Join us for a full day of experiments that put chemistry and common kitchen items together to create amazing reactions! As we create, we will talk about the science behind the experiments.

Advanced Computer  

This hands-on class is to help participants move to a higher level of computer programming. It is an expansion of last year’s class with Raspberry Pi Programming and will provide real world interfaces. Familiarity with Python and Raspberry Pi Programming Language is necessary. The registration fee covers the cost of Raspberry Pi and Interface Kit for each participant so that they can be taken home for more programming fun!

Sharp Shooters Camp

Calling all shooting sports enthusiasts! Join us for two days of a shooting camp where youth will learn 

How to safely practice with real firearms. Ammunition and targets will be provided. This camp will be led by 4-H-trained coaches who specialize and are certified in different disciplines. Rifle, Shotgun, and Pistol disciplines will be available and all youth will get a chance to learn and practice each discipline. Parents are required to accompany their youth during this camp. Our 4-H Mountaineers Shooting Sports Club will lead this camp and is open to anyone from ages 8-18. *Bring a packed lunch on Friday, A Meal will be provided on Saturday* **Parents are required to attend**

Cloverbud Christmas in July

Are you getting tired of the summer heat? So are we! Join us as we pretend it is Christmas for a day by creating Christmas crafts! Wear your favorite silly Christmas shirt! Learn how to make and decorate a small holiday wreath, make a gingerbread ornament and snowman ornament, painted wooden craft. Participants will be entering their crafts in the Mountain State Fair for Ribbons and prizes!

Junior Christmas in July

Who doesn’t love Christmas? Join us as we celebrate Christmas in July by making various Christmas/Winter crafts. We will make ornaments, cards, and more on these fun-filled days. Please have your participant wear older clothes because we will be painting. Each participant will have the opportunity to submit their creations at the Mountain State Fair. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy.

Learn how to make a personal advent wreath that emphasizes kindness, a large wreath for the holidays, a wooden tray painted and decorated with a special design, a wood burned ornament with the person’s initials, and two ornaments/decorations made for Fall or Winter Holidays.

End of Summer Bash

Summer’s over? Already? Join us for one last day full of fun outdoors. We will have some sweet treats 

with outdoor activities! Please apply sunscreen and bug spray before sending your child. Parents are welcome to join!

Awards Night

Open to anyone who participated in the 2025 Summer Fun Program. On this night, we will celebrate youth achievements and thank our volunteers who made it all possible! We will have a catered dinner with Countryside BBQ in Marion.
