Pesticide Disposal Day

Image of recyclablesOn Tuesday, May 7, 2019, the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mitchell County Center will be holding a Pesticide Collection and Disposal Day at the Mitchell County Recycling Center, 2097 Altapass Hwy, in Spruce Pine. You can bring pesticides by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 7. This will be a good opportunity for you to dispose of old, unused, out of date, or unwanted pesticides. The pesticides will be collected and disposed of by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, Pesticide Division. Pesticides include insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc.

Any pesticide can be collected if it meets the following guidelines.

  • No leaking containers
  • No paint or solvents
  • Pesticides in metal containers larger than 5 gallons must be arranged for on-farm pickup

If you have large amounts of pesticides you would like to dispose of please call the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Mitchell County Center at 688-4811 before May 7, and give us the product name and size of the containers.
